GUREVICH, EMMANUIL L’VOVICH (1866–1952). MOSCOW

Father of Olga Gurevich, wife of the collector Aleksandr Chayanov. Emmanuil Gurevich was not a collector. But when Chayanov was shot in 1937 and his wife arrested, he had to assume responsibility for the family and for the collection. From the documents of the Department of Manuscripts of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts it is known that Emmanuil Gurevich proposed to sell 260 prints from the collection to the museum. The prints were not purchased. Nevertheless, in 1941 the museum received from the Moscow Purchasing Commission 118 prints that had belonged to Aleksandr Chayanov and were bought from Emmanuil Gurevich.
