A translator and a commentator of the Holy Scripture. He studied in Rome and was baptized between 360 and 366. He travelled a lot. During an illness he had a vision and decided to dedicate his life to God. He went to the desert and started learning Hebrew to be able to read the original text of Bible. He translated the Old Testament into Latin and edited the Latin version of the New Testament. The Latin Bible known as the Vulgate created by Saint Jerome, is still canonic nowadays. In 378 or 379 he was ordained bishop. In 388, he went to live in the monastery. There he helped a lion by healing his paw and the lion started to serve the saint.
