He studied art in Nuremberg. His first essays in etching and engraving were guided by Albert Christoph Reindel. He became an independent artist in 1821 when he made a series of engravings for an almanac. In 1837, he worked as a teacher of drawing in Nuremberg. He made graphic and watercolour pictures of old houses and churches of Nuremberg. He made engravings after the paintings by others. He created cycles of views with texts and published them in a book format.
