BOYTSOVA, MARIA
An artist, an art historian, a museum curator
1889–before 1924
Maria Boytsova studied in a gymnasium and in the Munich Academy of Arts. Since the beginning of 1918, she worked in the Print Cabinet of the Rumyantsev Museum.
She specialized in German graphic art. Maria Kholodovskaya remembers: "M. P. Boytsova was a sickly girl, not very young, with splendid blonde hair. In the past, she had been rich and she still lived in Spiridonovka Street in her own house with a lion on the roof. At first she seemed very haughty and inapproachable but deep in her heart she was very kind, tender and unhappy. She soon fell very sick (it seems to be a heart sickness) and died".
