SAINT LAWRENCE

c. 225 – 258

An archdeacon. While studying he met Sixtus II who himself ordained him. He cared of the church treasury and of Holy Books. When Sixtus II was put in prison, Lawrence distributed all the valuables among the poor in three days and when asked to give up the treasure, he showed a crowd of mendicants. He was executed on a gridiron (a metal grate with parallel bars used to cook food – and to torture).

Attributes: gridiron, dalmatic in fire.
