DESTRUCTION OF BABYLON
EZEKIEL 35, 2–12; APOCALYPSE 18
Babylon was an ancient city in Mesopotamia on the bank of the River Euphrates, founded in 3rd millennium BC. In 2nd–1st millenniums BC it was a capital of the Babylonian Kingdom. It flourished during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar. Among the most spectacular constructions in Babylon, as one can judge by the remains, were the Ishtar Gate and the Processional Way. The city was many times attacked and plundered, destroyed and reconstructed. Its decline started in 3rd century BC.
