ASCENSION OF MARY MAGDALENE
A MEDIEVAL LEGEND
A character from the Gospels. In Catholic tradition, often identified with a sinner who washed Jesus's feet in the house of Simon the Pharisee. In any case, she was a follower of Jesus, was present at his death and burial, was one of the Three Marys who saw an angel telling about the Resurrection and the first person to see that the Christ had risen. She became a hermit and, according to the Catholic tradition, spent thirty years in desert repenting her sins. She prayed in a choir of angels, rising over the earth.
