SAMSON

A character from the Bible who had an extraordinary force, coming from his long hair. Among other feats, Samson killed a lion that was going to attack him, simply by ripping his jaws apart. In 15th century this story was depicted by the Master E. S. and Israhel van Meckenem in copperplate engravings. Dürer knew their works and used them.
